Louis Tomlinson has thanked fans after an emotional performance on The X Factor 2016 live final.
The former One Direction singer gave his debut solo performance of track Just Hold On in last night's show at Wembley Arena.
Louis paid tribute to his late mother Johannah who tragically passed away this week, aged just 43.
A statement from the family read on Friday: “It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin’s family said goodbye to Johannah in the early hours of Wednesday 7th December 2016.
“Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukaemia that required immediate and continuous treatment.
“We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private.”
Speaking on Twitter after singing, Louis wrote to his fans: "That was harder than I ever imagined. I want to thank everyone around me and all of the amazing fans out there that made that so special!
"Feeling so much love around me and my family . Mum would have been so f**king proud ( sorry for swearing mum 😝 ) love you !"
On the show, Simon Cowell told Louis: “Louis, I have to say something to you, what you’ve just done, and the bravery, I respect you as an artist and as a person.
“Your mum was so proud of you Louis. She was so looking forward to tonight and she’s looking down on you.”
Meanwhile, off camera, the rest of the 1D boys were also there to support him.
"Harry, Niall and Liam all wanted to be there to support Louis tonight for what was undoubtedly one of the most difficult moments of his life," a source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper. “It was an incredible and special thing for them to get back together as a four and be like brothers again."
The X Factor 2016 final continues tonight at 8PM on ITV.
