X Factor 2016: James Arthur turned down Matt Terry duet because 'it wouldn't work'

James Arthur turned down an X Factor 2016 final duet with Matt terry because 'it wouldn't work'.

Earlier this week it was claimed that James would be singing with Matt at the weekend, having originally being lined up to perform with Emily Middlemas had she made the final.

With Emily out on Sunday, James was in talks to instead duet with Matt.

But despite the two guys sharing a mentor in Nicole Scherzinger, it's not going to happen.

According to ITV's Lorraine, James was indeed asked but 'didn't feel like it work with them together'. James also encouraged Matt to perform with mentor Nicole instead.

It's the second blow to Matt ahead of the final after Sam Smith also reportedly pulled out of a duet with him.

According to the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper, the duo were lined up to sing James Bond theme Writing’s On The Wall together, a song Matt previously performed on the show on his own.

“Sam loved his version so it seemed the perfect plan to put them together," a source said at the weekend. "There’s still a slim chance but it doesn’t look like it will happen now.”

Its left Matt relying on mentor Nicole as a duet partner in Saturday night's final.

Meanwhile, it's been revealed that 5 After Midnight had been lined up to sing alongside so-called Spice Girls GEM, made up of Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel B.

However the plans fell through at the last minute due to schedule clashes, leaving show bosses in need of a replacement.

Now 5 After Midnight may sing with X Factor reigning winner Louisa Johnson and group Clean Bandit on their hit Tears.

Saara Aalto is set to sing with Adam Lambert.

The X Factor 2016 final airs this weekend live on ITV from 8PM on Saturday and Sunday from Wembley Arena.

As well as the duets, there will be confirmed guest performances from Little Mix and Kylie!
