X Factor 2016: Matt Terry is still hoping to duet with Sam Smith

Matt Terry is still hoping to duet with Sam Smith on The X Factor 2016 this weekend.

Matt's the only one of the final three duets that remains a bit uncertain, with Sam, his mentor Nicole Scherzinger and former X Factor champ James Arthur all rumoured.

"I would love to duet with Sam Smith or Jessie J," Matt said today. “I love them.

“They are my favourite artists.”

Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Matt added: “They are who I want to be as artists. I love a bit of retro put into my songs. It’s bringing the old school back.”

However Matt's potential duet is unlikely to happen despite Sam Smith being set to perform in the final anyway.

According to the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper, the duo were lined up to sing James Bond theme Writing’s On The Wall together, a song Matt previously performed on the show on his own.

“Sam loved his version so it seemed the perfect plan to put them together," a source said at the weekend. "There’s still a slim chance but it doesn’t look like it will happen now.”

Speaking to the tabloid about the potential duet, Matt said: “To sing that song again with Sam Smith would be the dream. It would be such an honour.

“Sam messaged me afterwards saying it was unreal and how proud he was that I smashed it. To have his support is amazing.”

As for other potential duets for the final, 5 After Midnight are set to sing with The Weeknd while Saara Aalto will share the stage with Adam Lambert.

The X Factor 2016 final airs this weekend live on ITV from 8PM on Saturday and Sunday from Wembley Arena.

As well as the duets, there will be confirmed guest performances from Little Mix and Kylie!
