James Arthur says he was 'probably always high' during his time on The X Factor.
The winner of the 2012 series has recently made a comeback after getting dumped by Simon Cowell's Syco label just a year after his victory.
Now James, who previously admitted to having had problems with drugs, has candidly confessed: "James Arthur of X Factor was probably always high.
"I'm much more present and more here."
The singer went away for three years before bursting back into the charts in the autumn with hit new single Say You Won't Let Go.
Its success saw Simon resign James as he released new album Back From The Edge, which went straight to Number 1.
"It's just been surreal," James told the Daily Mail. "It's been amazing - these are all cliché words that don't even do it justice.
"Everybody wrote me off, even me, so to be in this position and perform at the O2 again, at one of the biggest gigs you can do, is absolutely a great sense of achievement."
Meanwhile, the 2012 series champ admitted he "couldn't name" any of this year's X Factor finalists.
But he advised the trio: "I always just say to believe in yourself and don’t try and be anyone but you. Remain who you are as an artist."
