X Factor 2016: Sam Smith 'says no to duet with Matt Terry' in the final

Matt Terry and Sam Smith are unlikely to duet in The X Factor 2016 final, it's been reported.

But it's not because Matt is sure to go home tonight.

One of the favourites to win, instead Matt's potential duet is unlikely to happen after Sam declined to appear on the show.

It was rumoured that Matt was being lined up to sing with Sam having had support from the world renowned chart topper throughout his X Factor journey.

According to the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper, the duo were lined up to sing James Bond theme Writing’s On The Wall together, a song Matt previously performed on the show on his own.

“Sam loved his version so it seemed the perfect plan to put them together," a source said today. "There’s still a slim chance but it doesn’t look like it will happen now.”

Speaking to the tabloid about the potential duet, Matt said: “To sing that song again with Sam Smith would be the dream. It would be such an honour.

“Sam messaged me afterwards saying it was unreal and how proud he was that I smashed it. To have his support is amazing.”

As for other potential duets for the final, 5 After Midnight have said they want to sing with Little Mix while Saara Aalto has her eye on performing alongside Adam Lambert.

Of course, all the duets depend on the acts making the final.

Sunday night at 8PM on ITV, the latest results will see another act leave, as well as performances from Lady Gaga and Zara Larsson.

Then it's onto the FINAL next weekend live from Wembley Arena.
