X Factor 2016: Matt Terry's 'secret boyband past revealed'

Matt Terry

X Factor 2016's Matt Terry was previously in a boyband, it's been revealed.

The favourite to win hasn't always been a solo singer - he used to be part of a trio called Far Too Far, together with the brother of JLS singer Marvin Humes.

According to the The Sun newspaper, the group fizzled out in 2014 but not before flying to the US to work with music producers and meet record labels.

"Matt has given the impression on the show that it’s his first time experiencing the music industry but it’s simply not true," a source told the tabloid. "Although Far Too Far never made it big, they did have a loyal fan base and spent a long time working on their career as a group.

“It’s strange he has decided to keep it such a secret as it was bound to come out eventually."

An X Factor source commented: “Matt joined the band for a few months while he was in college.

“He is still on good terms with the other members of the group and one has even come down to support him in the audience at the live shows.”

Bookies have Matt as the favourite to win this year's series having been the tip to triumph since the auditions.

This week is the semi-finals as Nicole Scherzinger's last remaining boy does battle for a spot at Wembley Arena next weekend.

The X Factor 2016 airs LIVE on ITV tonight at 8PM with the latest live performances.

Then on Sunday night at 8PM the latest results will see another act leave, as well as performances from Lady Gaga and Zara Larsson.
