If he actually does make the final, of course.
With the last live show set for Wembley Arena in less than two weeks' time, plans for the possible finalist duets are being put into place.
Indeed, it was reported last weekend that producers had already lined up Vanilla Ice to sing with Honey G should she have made the final.
Sam Smith seems like a perfect match for Matt with the pair having already met up off camera.
Matt spilled previously he and Sam had a 'secret meeting' and got tips from the chart topping performer.
The favourite to win told The Sun newspaper: "It's just crazy. I had a bunch of questions to ask him about his career. It was pretty cool. He's an artist I've listened to since he started and I think his career is just insane.
"He told me he'd heard me sing 'I'll Be There', which he thought sounded good. He said to me to just keep doing what I'm doing."
However if the schedules don't work out, Matt's own mentor Nicole Scherzinger could prove a more than adequate second choice.
He raved about her this past week: "She trusts me and I trust her. We keep saying we're the same person because we have the same ideas and opinions.
"We understand each other, it's nice to be able to connect with somebody who understands you."
As for the other would-be finalists, there haven't been any significant rumours or reports as yet.
But we think it's fairly safe to rule out any of them singing with their mentors if they make the final..
The X Factor 2016 continues this Saturday and Sunday night on ITV with the live semi-finals.
