X Factor 2016: Matt Terry makes Nicole Scherzinger CRY with Sam Smith cover

Matt Terry left mentor Nicole Scherzinger in tears on The X Factor 2016 tonight.

Last week Matt was met with a lukewarm reception from the judges after his Disco themed performance.

Simon Cowell suggested that half of the song "didn't work" and encouraged: "I still think there is a lot more to come from you."

Well tonight Matt certainly brought that something more to the stage for Movies week.

He was singing Writing’s on The Wall by Sam Smith from the movie Spectre, which on paper appeared to suit Matt perfectly.

And when he hit the stage he took the song on in his stride, leaving Nicole sobbing.

She told him: "That is what we're here for, to be moved. You're so classy, I adore you. I know what the song means to you and you took me there with you."

Meanwhile, Sharon Osbourne suggested Matt would win while Louis Walsh described the performance as a "vocal masterclass".

After singing, Matt told Dermot O'Leary: "This song I've wanted to sing it, as soon as it hit movies. This is the vision I had. I just want to thank everyone."

Elsewhere tonight, Saara Aalto NAILED Her cover of My Heart Will Go On From Titanic but there was a less than positive reception to both Ryan Lawrie and 5 After Midnight after they opened up the show.
