X Factor boss Simon Cowell has said he "respects" Honey G after she made a shock confession about her past.
The singer revealed in a new interview at the weekend how she previously struggled with drug addictions and "did class A drugs"
“I’m hardcore and I’m totally real," Honey G told The Sun.
She opened up to the newspaper about turning to drugs after being "kidnapped and sexually assaulted" at college.
Honey G said: “I have struggled with addiction. I have nothing to hide. I did do some class A drugs like cocaine and I did pills. I did a magic mushroom that I will never do again — that was probably one of the worst experiences.
“The thing about me is there is actually a story behind me and my life. It’s not like, ‘Hi I’ve just turned up on X Factor’.
“I’ve been a musician my entire life and I’ve been through real experiences. I’m totally real, hardcore and I have experienced things that are real.”
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Simon said of Honey's confession: “I respect her for the fact she was honest – and 100 percent, if I thought she was condoning it she would not be here now.”
Simon added: “She was baring her soul. What she was trying to say is this is not something she recommends. At least she admitted to something and this is not the first artist who is going to admit to something like that.”
“If it happens on the show like it’s happened in the past, they’re out.”
However some have still called on The X Factor to "get rid" of Honey.
One user tweeted: "She should be BOOTED off the show immediately."
According to The Sun, X Factor bosses spoke to Honey G following her revelation to them and denied any drug use while on the show.
A spokesperson for the X Factor said: “We’ve spoken to Honey and she’s assured us she has not taken drugs while being on the show.”
The X Factor is back Saturday on ITV from 8PM.
