X Factor 2016: Nicole Scherzinger takes swipe at Girls Aloud in girl group week

Nicole Scherzinger took a not-so-subtle swipe at Girls Aloud on The X Factor 2016 tonight.

It was Girl Group v Boy Band tonight and Saara Aalto was performing a song by former reality TV winners Girls Aloud.

Saara covered their track Sound Of The Underground, released by the five piece with their then mentor on Popstars: The Rivals, X Factor's own Louis Walsh.

It was a rather ridiculous performance as Saara dressed up in a bizarre outfit and even stranger wig for the number.

When it came to the judges' comments, Nicole said: "That song doesn't really go anywhere vocally. You're bigger than that song."

As Simon Cowell made cat noises, Nicole continued: "I loved what you did with it but is somebody singing a Pussycat Dolls song next?!"

""That song doesn't really go anywhere vocally", "You're bigger than that song"... Nicole continuing to slay Cheryl! #XFactor," one viewer quipped on Twitter after Nicole's remarks.

Meanwhile, The X Factor judge has suggested SHE should open up the live shows every week.

After Nicole belted out a diva medley last month, the American performer reckons she could set the standard for the contestants to beat.

Asked by new! magazine how she’d improve the show, Nicole said: “I would have Nicole Scherzinger open up the show every freakin’ week.

“I’d be like 'This is how it’s done, if you can match that, you’re moving onto the next round'. I’m not joking!”

The X Factor 2016 is back next Saturday and Sunday on ITV from 8PM.

It's a Girl band v Boy Band theme and there will be a guest performance from Robbie Williams.
