X Factor's Simon Cowell says Honey G is a ratings hit (despite viewers actually tuning out)

Simon Cowell has claimed that Honey G is a ratings hit, despite viewing figures actually dropping.

The music mogul was speaking at the Pride Of Britain awards last night and discussed the nation's newest favourite genuine urban artist.

"Don't blame me. Don't blame me," he said of the controversy surrounding Honey G. "Part of me is thinking I don't know what's going on. The other part of me is laughing. It's Honey G. She's doing great.

"I walked down the red carpet tonight and guess who everyone was asking about, Honey G."

He added to the Daily Mirror: "The ratings love her. She's rehearsing tonight."

However as we recently revealed, viewing figures for The X Factor this year are actually decreasing.

That trend continued at the weekend with Saturday show's hitting a new series low of 5.7 million viewers, over 2.5 million down on the peak at the auditions last month and 500,000 below the first live episode of this year.

As usual, Sunday's show rating was slightly up on the Saturday episode but at 6.2 million it was the least watched results show this series.

So far this year's live shows have averaged 6.2 million viewers, down 500,000 on last year's first four live shows and down 1.1 million viewers on what this year's auditions averaged.

Maybe Honey G is actually harming ratings, rather than improving them? Or perhaps without her, figures would be even lower...

The X Factor continues this Saturday and Sunday night at 8PM on ITV.
