X Factor 2016: Emily Middlemas not happy with Simon Cowell's song choices

Emily Middlemas has admitted she's not been totally impressed with Simon Cowell's X Factor song choices.

In the first live show of the series, Emily had a last minute song switch and it wasn't one that she personally approved.

Despite the theme being 'Express Yourself', mentor Simon Cowell changed Emily's track from Britney Spear's Toxic to The Chainsmokers' Closer.

Emily admitted to OK! Magazine this week: "I wasn't [happy with my song] the first week.

"My track got changed by Simon at the last minute and it just didn't feel like me."

She went on: "I wish we'd stuck to my original track. I can see why Simon changed it, he wanted me to do something that was more young and in the charts."

Emily went on to concede she "probably" wouldn't stand up to Simon over the song choices.

She explained: "Simon has been in this industry for years so he knows what he's doing."

But it's not the first time that Emily has admitted being unsure of her songs.

She previously revealed hopes to perform an uptempo number for divas week and finally being allowed to move.

"I've been stuck, the first one I was in a cage and the second one I was in a circle," Emily said of her first performances on the live shows.

However last week Emily was again left glued to the spot with a slowed down cover of Whitney Houston's How Will I Know.

Chatting afterwards on Xtra Factor, Emily confessed it wasn't what she actually wanted.

"I really wanted to [sing an upbeat song] this week but I guess I kind of have to take Simon's words," Emily told hosts Matt Edmondson and Rylan Clark-Neal on ITV2's Xtra Factor.

Emily insisted that despite clashes over songs, mentor Simon was the "nicest guy ever."

"He's really fussy with me because he knows the direction he wants me to go in, so if one little thing is wrong, we'll change it," she said.

The X Factor 2016 airs live tonight at 8PM on ITV.
