X Factor Gifty Louise has opened up about battling depression following her mum's death.
Gifty was just ten when she tragically lost her mum in a car accident.
The sudden death ultimately resulted in Gifty attempting to take her own life when she was a teenager.
“When I tried to kill myself, the whole time I was thinking, ‘Finally, I get to join my mum in peace. The pain goes away from now on'," Gifty candidly confessed this weekend.
She recalled: “Waking in the hospital was a life-changing experience for me. I felt like I had been given another chance to live.”
In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, Gifty revealed how being on The X Factor has already allowed her to help others who have been going through "dark times".
Gifty told the tabloid how she spoke to a fan for hours on the phone after they tweeted her about losing both parents.
“She was at breaking point. She sent me messages on Twitter to say she had lost her mother and then, more recently, her dad," Gifty explained. “She told me she had tried to kill herself, and I started crying. I took her number and called. We talked for maybe two hours.”
Gifty added: “I told her: ‘everything is going to be OK.’ I said, ‘You go through dark times but sometimes you have to go through that to make you like the person you need to be today – to make you strong.
“Reaching out is one thing I didn’t do. When you are in that state of mind you don’t want to do that, you want to feel in control in some way.”
