Former X Factor finalist Janet Devlin has revealed her struggles following the show.
The singer appeared on the series in 2011 and got all the way through to the live finals.
Janet's since been trying to launch her music career but confessed she's found it difficult to be taken seriously.
Preparing to release a brand new track, Janet explained: “Sometimes it can be hard because often TV and radio stations will say ‘she was on The X Factor so we don’t want to hear her music’.
"They won’t even play it.
“It’s taken quite a long time to get away from the stigma but after the show you couldn’t get air time, you couldn’t get TV time."
She told The Sun: “They said ‘go away and make music and prove you’re not a fair-weather fame hunter and we’ll talk to you then.’
“So I’m hoping they’ll give me a bit of love this time.”
Janet says she turned down big money offers from record companies shortly after the show, saying they only wanted to put her name to other people's songs.
"I didn’t do go through the show just to sing someone else’s music so I turned down those deals and I went down the indie route," Janet explained.
She revealed: “It’s been great because there’s no label saying you have to sound like this.
"But the downside is the lack of money because you don’t have a record label saying, ‘here’s £100,000 to make an album’.”
Janet's brand new 2016 single Outernet Song is out to download now.
