23-year-old Matt revealed to the judges during his first performance that he used to be a waiter but quit his job after an upsetting break up.
In fact, Matt explained he was dumped just before his birthday three years into the relationship.
"Music is my passion, it's the dream come true, it's what I'm here for," he said. "I'm going to go for it with everything I have."
Matt went on to make judges' houses at the weekend where he performed a song about his ex, She's Out Of My Life.
But newspapers have claimed that Matt is in fact back with his former partner.
"Matt made a big thing about the fact he was a hopeless single and was left heartbroken during his first audition in front of the judges," a source claimed.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the insider added: “It was a classic X Factor sob story but little do viewers know Matt and [his girlfriend] are still very much together.
“She did split with him very briefly at one point but they’re currently very loved up and even living together in the same flat."
However Matt has hit back at the reports, telling the Metro newspaper simply: "My ex and I split amicably and are still friends but we’re not in a relationship."
So that clears that up then.
On Sunday we saw Matt make it through to the live shows at judges' houses in Nicole Scherzinger's Boys category.
He'll be performing live for the first time this Saturday evening from 8PM on ITV.
