The X Factor 2016's final three girls in the live shows have been confirmed.

Tonight was judges' houses as Simon Cowell picked his finalists for the live shows.

A total of seven girls performed for Simon and his guest judges Emma Bunton and Mel B in Malibu.

Once everyone had performed there was a tense deliberation - where Simon thanked his Spice Girl guests "for nothing" - before the tearful decisions were delivered.

Simon said goodbye to Kayleigh Marie Morgan, Caitlyn Vanbeck, Soheila Clifford and Olivia Garcia.

But it was good news for Emily Middlemas, Samantha Lavery and Gifty Louise Agyeman who are now all in the live shows of The X Factor 2016.

X Factor 2016: Girls in the live shows

Emily Middlemas

17 - MUSICIAN - GLASGOW, SCOTLAND
Emily lives at home with her parents and has been singing from a very young age. She previously reached Cheryl’s judges’ houses in 2014, but didn’t progress to the live shows, as Cheryl felt she was too young at the time. Since then she has been gigging and writing her own songs. Nicole was ‘entranced’ by Emily during her audition and thinks she’s ‘a little find’.

Samantha Lavery

17- STUDENT - DURHAM
Samantha has been singing for the past six years, but has only been taking it seriously for the last two years. Her granddad is her No.1 fan, as well as her biggest inspiration as he used to be a singer but gave up music to look after his family. She always wanted to audition for The X Factor and this is the first year that she’s been old enough to apply. During her room audition Louis said Samantha ‘ticks every single box’.

Gifty Louise Agyeman

20 - STUDENT - LONDON
Gifty is originally from Ghana and moved to London 10 years ago. She started singing when she was 12 and is currently on a gap year from her studies to concentrate on music. Gifty reached last year’s bootcamp stage, but lost her voice on the day she had to perform. Sharon called her first audition ‘very dramatic” and a “great performance’.
