X Factor singer Freddy Parker has opened up about a drink drive smash that saw him banned from driving.

The singer in the Boys category escaped prison but was banned from the roads for nine months, reduced from twelve after he completed a drink-driving course earlier this year.

Freddy told The Sun newspaper how he crashed his car into a ditch after driving the morning after.

“I was at a party with my mates, we all crashed out, I woke up and me and my mate wanted to go home," he explained. “I thought I was OK but I never stopped to think about whether I was over the limit. We were about two minutes from home, I went round a bend and skidded into a ditch.

“I don’t know how but the car was written off. I called my mum and she told me to walk home and we would talk about it when I got home."

Police caught up with Freddy who was found to be over the drink drive limit following a urine test.

The potential live show finalist told the tabloid: “It was such a stupid error of judgement. I was so naive to think I could touch even a bit of alcohol and get behind the wheel of my car.

“I’ve listened to other people’s stories and it horrifies me to think about the damage I could have done.”

We'll find out this weekend if Freddy wins a spot in The X Factor 2016 live shows as he sings for mentor Nicole Scherzinger in France at judges' houses.
