And following Friday night's perhaps disappointing start to Strictly's live shows, the second half yesterday evening bounced right back.
A total audience of 8.6 million tuned in to Saturday night's live show between 6:30PM and 8PM, up 1.4 million viewers on Friday's instalment.
It's also up almost a million viewers on 2015's first Saturday live show and up 400,000 viewers on 2014's Saturday equivalent episode.
The X Factor meanwhile posted a figure of 7.1 million viewers for the first half of the six chair challenge, down 600,000 viewers on last Saturday.
There is no year-on-year comparison as, due to the Rugby World Cup, in 2015 The X Factor had ditched its Saturday shows but in 2014 the equivalent episode was watched by 7.9 million viewers.
Strictly peaked with 9.5 million viewers while The X Factor achieved a high of 7.9 million during the evening.
As usual there was no public vote in Strictly's first weekend and so no results episode tonight, but The X Factor does return this evening at the earlier time of 7PM on ITV.
While the two shows didn't clash on Saturday next weekend they'll go head to head directly for the first time this year.
Strictly's second live show runs from 6:20PM to 8:25PM on BBC One while The X Factor's judges' houses airs between 8PM and 9:25PM on ITV.
