Not that we needed much confirmation after she appeared in a teaser during last Sunday's episode, but still it's now official.
Mel B was drafted in as a guest judge to stand in for Nicole at some of the try outs in London while filming took place for the room auditions earlier this year.
Simon confirmed back in the summer that he would be joined by Nicole, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh on this year's panel of 'fan favourites' but they've not all been able to make every audition.
We've already seen Sharon missing some performances and this Saturday will be Nicole's turn.
“This is a diary clash that Nicole had booked in before she agreed to do X Factor and couldn’t change," a source revealed earlier this year.
America's Got Talent judge Mel was flown over to take a seat for what will be her third appearance on The X Factor.
Mel was previously a guest judge during auditions in 2012 and also appeared as a full time judge for the 2014 series.
“Mel has been working with Simon as a judge on America’s Got Talent so was available to cover," the source explained. “He also knows she’ll come in and take no prisoners so is the perfect temporary replacement for the day.”
Reaction to the announcement online has been rather mixed, with Mel variously been hailed as one of the show's best judges and slated as one of the worst, while others were disappointed one of the One Direction lads couldn't step in.
Goes to show you really can never please everybody...
The X Factor 2016 auditions continue next Saturday and Sunday night on ITV from 8PM.
