Ratings for The X Factor 2016 last night remained up on last year, following a strong figure for Saturday night's show.

8.3 million viewers tuned in to the first half of this weekend's try outs, the show's highest rated auditions episode since 2014 and nearly matching 2015's final figure of 8.4 million.

Last night's latest instalment saw a slight decline on that number - although that is typical when comparing Saturday and Sunday episodes - as 7.6 million viewers tuned in from 8PM on ITV.

That's up 500,000 viewers on 2015 and in line with the figure from 2014 at the same point in the competition.

Like Saturday's show, Sunday's episode saw a big increase week-on-week, up 1.3 million viewers.

After The X Factor on ITV, Victoria continued with 5.3 million viewers to narrowly beat Poldark's return on BBC One by 200,000 viewers.
