X Factor's James Hughes is said to be hiding heartbreak from viewers.
While James has been all smiles on the show, he's said to be covering up the tragic death of his brother.
The Sun newspaper says that James, who is now through to judges' houses, doesn't want to be seen to have a sob story on the show.
“James always has a huge smile on his face but unbeknown to viewers he went through the tragedy of losing his brother when he was just ten-years-old," a 'family friend' told the tabloid.
They revealed: “Carey was killed in his sleep in May 2009 and the Hughes family haven’t had it easy since then with James losing his grandparents, four uncles and his auntie too all within a short time of one another.
“This is why everyone in his community is behind James as him and his family really need a lucky break.”
A source added to the newspaper: "He has been terrified of being shamed for having a classic X Factor sob story and does not want it to impact on viewers’ opinions on him.”
Tonight James is seen singing for a place in the live shows but the pressure of judges' houses appears to get to him.
James tells cameras: "The room auditions feel like such a long time ago. It was the best performance I've given to date but I need to up my game. To get through would be incredible."
James sings for mentor Nicole Scherzinger and her guest judge Calvin Harris in France.
But the talented youngster cracks in the first verse and is forced to start again.
"Good job," Nicole reassures him after the performance.
Will James make the live shows?
The X Factor 2016 airs tonight at 7:30PM on ITV.
