Louis Walsh called Simon Cowell WEEKLY to gloat about The X Factor's ratings failure

Louis Walsh covered in mud on ITV's Drive

Simon Cowell has revealed that Louis Walsh called him regularly to gloat about The X Factor 2015's ratings struggle after he was dropped from the judging panel.

Louis was the only judge to appear on every single series of the ITV talent contest - until last year, when he was replaced by Nick Grimshaw.

The show then suffered a ratings tumble, with last year's run losing well over 1million viewers - and Louis has made no secret of his delight at this, recently saying: "I was really glad it didn't work without me!"

But it turns out Louis went even further with his gloating - as Simon has revealed that, by the end of the year, Louis was contacting him on a weekly basis to tease him about the numbers.

"It was like the Louis I used to know when he was a manager," the media mogul said in an interview with The Mirror. "He was spitting mad but happy at the same time. He was calling me every week!

"It became so frequent I knew when the call was coming in and I would put him on loudspeaker and read a magazine and he would be screaming and shouting down the phone."

Unsurprisingly, Louis will be making his X Factor comeback when it returns for its thirteenth series in August - although Simon denied "begging" him to sign up.

He isn't the only familiar face returning, as original judge Sharon Osbourne and fan favourite Nicole Scherzinger will be back on the panel - while Dermot O'Leary will resume presenting duties.
