X Factor boss Simon Cowell has confessed he knew last year's series was in trouble when the panel was first announced.
Simon was joined by Cheryl, Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora on the line up last year but have all since quit.
Replacing them are a new line up... of former judges. Louis Walsh, Sharon Osborne and Nicole Scherzinger.
Simon has high hopes for the new line up and admitted the reaction over last year has already been overwhelmingly positive.
"When we announced the new line up compared to last year, it was 95% positive, no one was saying it was a mistake and that was what we were getting last year," the music mogul explained.
Reflecting on 2015's line up reveal, Simon admitted: "I mean the minute we announced it, it was like f***, this doesn’t feel great, let’s see how it goes. But it was tough.
“This year has been a hoot, it has been fun back working with the three of them.”
Meanwhile The X Factor and BGT boss said a new three year deal for both shows to remain on ITV until at least 2020 is "pretty much there."
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We normally sign three years. It is not done yet but it will be around that.
“We got calls from everyone, in terms of TV channels. I felt secure about it.
“Sometimes I go back and look at figures from four, five years ago.
“Of course we were doing more numbers but in those days the soaps were doing 14 million too.”
The new series of The X Factor begins later this month on ITV.
