The X Factor 2016 hopefuls The Brooks are facing controversy - as they have been backed by Simon Cowell's friend Sinitta.

Sinitta is known for her close links to Simon, having repeatedly appeared as one of his advisors on the ITV talent contest over the years.

And it seems the 'So Macho' singer has been lending her expertise to The Brooks, as according to The Sun she is acting as their 'manager'.

The singing twins - real names Kyle and Joshua - apparently believe Sinitta on their side will give them the boost they need to make the live shows.

"They’ve been lording it up backstage. Sinitta’s support has given them a wave of confidence," the newspaper's source commented. "They are sure it will help them get through."

Responding to the report, an X Factor spokesperson insisted that all contestants are judged solely on their merit.

The Brooks came close to X Factor stardom during the 2014 series, when they made it to the judges' houses stage - but judge Louis Walsh cut them before the live shows.

Two years later they are back for a second shot - resulting in awkward moment with Louis at their recent audition. A source told the Daily Star: "He squirmed a bit having to face them. He hadn’t seen them since he sent them home in tears."

The X Factor will be back on our screens at the end of August.
