Louis Walsh has said he was HAPPY when last year's X Factor "didn't work" with him not on the panel.
In a new interview, The X Factor veteran admitted he was originally annoyed after getting the axe but says he was left happy when the new judges failed to attract viewers.
Chatting on Saturday Night with Miriam on Irish TV, Louis explained: "I was sacked, they just told me not to come back.
"I was initially annoyed but then I watched the show and I was happy, I was really glad it didn't work without me!
"I think they [the viewers] liked the old format, the fun, and the old crew, the more experienced crew."
Louis claimed that ITV "wanted to make the show younger" however "it just didn't work."
This year's X Factor judging panel sees not only the return of Louis but also comebacks from Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger, who all appeared together in the 2013 series alongside Gary Barlow.
Revealing he had to help persuade Sharon to say yes to The X Factor for a third time, Louis spilled: "Getting Sharon back was a tough job because she and Simon don't see eye to eye."
However it seems as though there weren't any such problems when it came to Nicole.
Louis raved about the former Pussycat Doll singer: "I think she's amazing. She can really, really sing. She did Cats, she can sing, perform, act."
And on "best friend" Simon Cowell, Louis added: "He's a pussy cat, if you met him you'd be charmed. He never curses, never raises his voice... and he loves animals!"
The X Factor 2016 will start later this year on ITV.
