X Factor 2016: Watch a first look at the brand new series

ITV has unveiled a first look at The X Factor 2016 this evening ahead of the show's return to TV later in the summer.

A first promo for the new series premièred during half time of the ongoing England Euro 2016 football game.

X Factor boss Simon Cowell confirmed at the start of the month that he would be joined by Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh on this year's panel of 'fan favourites'.

They've been filming the auditions back in the judges rooms for the past few weeks, joined by host Dermot O'Leary who is back on board in lace of Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.

In this clip we see one of the more wacky hopefuls singing a song about Friday nights that gets the judges up on their feet.

Even Simon Cowell is joining in... sort of.

However the new series won't be all laughs and giggles with reports of tears on set after some tough comments from Sharon.

"[Sharon]’s had contestants, who have queued up for 16 hours to audition, in pieces," a source
revealed recently. “Some were left so distraught by her comments they refused to do interviews afterwards."

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the insider added: “She even described one as looking ‘like a little hooker’. It’s safe to say the bitch is back.”

Sharon herself admitted to the tabloid that there had been tears but they came with the territory.

“I don’t want to hurt anyone, but unfortunately the nerves and rejection during the audition process does often cause some tears," Sharon is quoted as saying.

She added: “I’m a mum and a grandma, I don’t want to intentionally hurt anyone who comes to audition but sometimes you have to say no.”

Alongside the judges and of Dermot, another familiar name making a return to The X Factor this year will be Mel B who has stood in for Nicole as a guest judge.

Meanwhile ITV just today confirmed that Matt Edmondson would be taking over as host of the Xtra Factor on ITV2.

Speaking about joining the show Matt joked, "I am unbelievably excited about joining The Xtra Factor this year, not least of all because on my first day Louis Walsh walked into my dressing room topless, unannounced. I regard this as the definition of ‘living the dream’”.

The X Factor 2016 will air on ITV later this summer with a start date expected in either late August or early September.
