Simon Cowell has promised "fun" changes to The X Factor, teasing a 'best of' series.

As yet no judges have been confirmed for the upcoming run and Si wasn't giving any names away in his latest interview.

But chatting to the Daily Mirror, Simon did drop some hints.

Firstly, speaking about last year's series, Simon admitted that it hadn't been a hit with viewers.

"You read the blogs and you read the tweets and you can normally tell when people like a panel or don’t like a panel," the music mogul explained. "It was clear to me when the show started that the fans didn’t like last year’s X Factor panel. You can’t ignore them.”

Nick Grimshaw, Cheryl Cole and Rita Ora have all gone and their replacements are rumoured to all be former judges.

Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne are rumoured to be making comebacks.

While Simon didn't confirm that, he did reveal: "We have done most of the groundwork now and have made some fun changes to X Factor which you will see this year.

“I think it will improve the show. It is going to feel very different from last year.

“But it will remind you of the things you used to love in previous years."

Simon continued: “That’s the whole objective. I like reunions and I like the idea of what I like to call ‘The best of’ the X Factor.

“It is not a science but you have to listen very carefully to the public, the media, the broadcaster... everyone.

“It is not just me sitting behind my desk making these decisions.”

On Sharon's potential return in particular, Simon added: "The one thing about Sharon is you never forget her. She is like a lot of people I work with, she can really irritate me then really make me laugh. She has her own opinions and sticks to them. She is a strong woman and people like her for that.”

For now, watch this space!

The X Factor will be back on ITV later this year.
