Nicole Scherzinger looks to be all but confirmed to join The X Factor this year.
The former judge of both the UK and US series is set to make a comeback alongside Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne in what will be a throwback to the 2013 panel.
The trio will sit alongside Simon Cowell on ITV later this year, if rumours are to believed.
The Daily Mail reports that Nicole is the favourite to replace Rita following her exit yesterday.
A source told the newspaper: "Nicole Scherzinger was a huge success when she was on the X Factor a few years ago and has long been part of the X Factor family.
"She provided fun and entertainment and a huge personality to the show. She is the definite favourite to get the seat next to Simon."
Taking to Twitter this week, Rita confirmed reports that she had left the show alongside Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl.
She tweeted: "I had a ball on @TheXFactor last year and will miss the team."
And in a message to Simon Cowell, Rita added: "Can't wait to work with you again... I'll be round for dinner soon. Thank you for the experience & love X"
A spokesperson for The X Factor commented: "Rita brought a great energy to the show last year and did a brilliant job mentoring the girls' category, leading Louisa to victory.
“We wish her all the best with her music and film plans for the rest of the year.”
While it has been said Rita chose to quit The X Factor, sources have claimed to the Daily Mirror newspaper that she only left after finding out about Simon Cowell's talks with Nicole.
“Simon offered Rita her old job back but always knew he’d withdraw it if he could get Nicole," an insider alleged. "Now Rita has found out about it and has claimed that she has ‘quit’ so that it doesn’t look like she was pushed.”
The X Factor will air on ITV later this year.
