The Liberty-X singer is now in the grand FINAL of The Voice 2016 and is the favorite to be crowned winner this Saturday night.
Kevin says he didn't even consider going on The X Factor because the blind auditions on The Voice gave him a better shot.
"I never considered The X Factor because although it has its positives, I knew that if I went for The Voice I would be judged on my voice in the blind auditions," he said.
Family man Kevin told the Press Association: "I felt I had a bit more of a fairer chance if people didn't know who I was and where I'd come from and what I'd done before."
The Team Ricky Wilson finalist admitted that the X Factor did offer "massive rewards" but the downsides were too risky.
"It could've worked for me or against me because I know 'ex-pop star' is a good story," Kevin reflected. "But at the same time, it could have a negative effect in which you turn up for the first audition and it's like, 'You've done it all before so we're not going to put you through'."
He concluded: "I felt [The Voice UK] was far more suited to me."
The Voice UK airs this Saturday night on BBC One from 7PM.
Kevin will be competing against fellow Team Ricky singer Jolan, Team Will's Lydia Lucy and Team George's Cody Frost for the win.
