Cheryl Cole has QUIT The X Factor, it's been officially confirmed this morning.
In a statement, her spokesperson said: "Cheryl has decided she will not be returning as a judge for the next series of The X Factor".
Cheryl said: "I have had such an amazing experience being a judge on The X Factor. I have learnt so much and enjoyed nurturing talent but I've missed making music and am excited to be recording again.
"I want to thank everybody I have worked with along the way, especially Simon who I love to bits. I hope the show continues to produce stars and I wish them all the best.
Simon Cowell added: "Cheryl and myself spoke about this. I totally understand her commitment to making more records. She has been amazing on the show and in the near future we will be working on other things together."
Cheryl has been a judge on The X Factor for five years, first between 2008 and 2010 and then again in 2014 and 2015.
The Sun newspaper revealed earlier today that Cheryl wouldn't be back this autumn, deciding instead to work on her new album.
“Cheryl told Simon of her decision at dinner last week in LA. They have had many discussions about the new series but she finally made up her [mind]," a source told the newspaper. “Her relationship with Simon is the best it's ever been and they both are incredibly supportive of each other
“Last year was one of her favourite series, she had a lot of fun mentoring her groups and enjoyed working closely with the production team on the show.”
A supposed pal of Cheryl's said that the Fight For This Love hitmaker was instead keen to go back to her music, with a new album planned for the end of the year.
It's also claimed that Cheryl will continue on The X Factor "in an advisory capacity" and will be invited to perform live later on in the year.
The news makes for the second exit for this year's judging line up with Nick Grimshaw having already left.
Louis Walsh has been widely tipped to make a comeback but there's been few other rumours about who else could be appearing.
Filming with the judges for this year's X Factor isn't expected to begin until at least June, so we can expect a lot more weeks of speculation...
The X Factor 2016 will air on ITV later this year.
