Simon Cowell says he’s “delighted” that Dermot O’Leary will be back on The X Factor this year.
The music mogul met up with Dermot last month with news of the presenter’s return being announced last week.
And Simon insists that their meeting was not the tension filled showdown one might have expected.
“I hate to disappoint you. Not. In. The. Slightest. It was so much fun,” Simon revealed this week.
He explained: “I said to him straight away: ‘To be honest with you, Dermot, I thought you wanted to leave. In hindsight, of course I should have called you. Anyway, whatever happened, happened. I miss you. The public miss you. You are brilliant at your job.’
“And that was that. Then we had a jolly nice afternoon tea.”
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Simon went on to say he wasn’t annoyed at Dermot’s apparent jibes at The X Factor after departing, including naming Strictly Come Dancing as his favourite show.
Simon said: “I didn’t need an apology. I mean, honestly, it’s all fun, it’s all tongue in cheek.
“The fact is that I’m delighted he’s coming back — he’s a great guy. And he’ll do a great job.”
Dermot will be back filming for The X Factor at the show's open auditions this Spring, although the judges for the new series have yet to be confirmed.
