Louis Walsh is swapping a seat behind the judges' desk on X Factor for one behind a steering wheel on ITV's new show Drive.

Starting in April, Drive will see a line up of celebrities battle it out to be crowned the ultimate all star racing champion.

Celebs will take to the driving seats of old bangers, buggies, 4x4s and rallycross cars among others in a series of challenges.

"I'm not a good driver and I hate speed, so what the hell am I doing on this show?! I don't know," Louis Walsh admitted.

He continued: "This is my first TV job since The X Factor. I just thought it'd be something a bit different.

"I thought, 'I'm not doing The X Factor, so I'm going to do this'. It's so out of my comfort zone."

Those joining Louis on the line up are rapper Professor Green; singer Ella Eyre; actor and comedian Johnny Vegas; Olympic athlete Colin Jackson; TV presenter Mariella Frostrup; weather expert Laura Tobin and broadcaster Angus Deayton.

"I love the mix of people," said Louis, "I'd met Professor Green and Ella Eyre briefly before, but I've got to know them much better out here.

"But people like Mariella and Angus, you wouldn't get them on these sorts of shows usually. Everyone's on it not to get famous but for a bit of fun, and because they genuinely love driving."

Declaring himself "the funny one", Louis added: "I won't win. There's no chance.

"I am just doing it to take part in something brand new and different, that's all. I'm not competitive and I know my limitations."

Drive starts in April on ITV.
