Nick Grimshaw won't be back on The X Factor 2016, it's been announced.
The judges for the new series are a long way off being confirmed officially - we expect to know anywhere from late Spring to early summer - but it's been revealed they definitely won't be the same as last year.
According to The Sun newspaper, Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw has made the decision to quit the series after his first (and presumably only) year behind the judges' desk.
A spokesperson for Nick told the tabloid: “After careful consideration, Nick’s decided to rule himself out as a judge on this year’s X Factor.
“He loved working on last year’s series alongside Rita, Cheryl and Simon but it was very much a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He remains a massive fan of the show and is looking forward to watching it this year.”
A spokesman for The X Factor added: “We wish him all the best.”
So who will be The X Factor 2016 judges? It's claimed that former panelist Louis Walsh could return or we may get a new face in the form of past finalist Louis Tomlinson.
“Louis Tomlinson is very likely to replace Grimmy. He agreed in principle to the job while assisting Simon Cowell during the judges’ houses round last year," a source told The Sun this evening. “But Simon remains very fond of Louis Walsh and came very close to bringing him back during last year’s live shows.
“He felt a certain something was missing on the show without him.”
Simon himself is expected to return alongside Cheryl but Rita's fate isn't clear, especially with rumours that she may go BACK to The Voice UK when it moves over to ITV in 2017.
An X Factor spokesman said: “Discussions are still going on about the new series.”
