The Chris Martin-fronted band are the first guest act on the bill for the extravaganza, which will take place in front of a crowd of thousands at Wembley Arena on December 12th and 13th.
According to a post on the show's official website, they will play a track from their brand new album 'A Head Full Of Dreams', which will be released on December 4th.
Its lead single 'Adventure Of A Lifetime' entered the official charts at number 14 earlier this month.
Coldplay's involvement was first mooted by The Mirror today, with a source saying: "Coldplay are a huge act, and this will be a key performance.
"They’ve collaborated with Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher and even Chris’s ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow appears on the album. Who knows who they could bring as a surprise guest?"
'A Head Full Of Dreams' is set feature the four-piece's biggest collaboration to date, as it was reported this week that US President Barack Obama has given them permission to sample his rendition of Amazing Grace from Charleston shooting victim Clementa Pinckney's memorial service.
Further acts will be confirmed for the X Factor final in the coming days, with One Direction and Adele rumoured to be taking part.
1D are expected to return to the show that made them for their final live performance ahead of their looming break.
Meanwhile, Adele - who has smashed sales records on both sides of the Atlantic this week with new album '25' - is said to be interested in appearing if she approves of the finalists.
