The 27-year-oold has been with partner Eleanor for five years but spending time away from her - and now living in The X Factor house - has been hard going.
“This has been a really challenging experience," Max admitted this week. "Being away is hard. Harder for her She isn’t sure what I’m doing, she doesn’t know the plan."
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “She is definitely worried I am going to change. I’m through to the live shows so It will put a lot of strain on us. We have talked through this in the last few weeks.
“We had had a lot of troubles and we have talked through the troubles and worries issues and fears."I have reassured her I don’t intend to change. She will always be in my heart.”
Max went on to reveal how he ended up in a "dark" place some years go after getting involved with the wrong people and taking drugs.
"I got to the point where I thought there was no hope. Sooner or later I’m going to die," he candidly confessed. “Music for me has been the biggest help. Like the six chair challenge when the audience turned everything around for me. It was a massive moment.
“It will help me accept myself more and more and it’s changed my life.”
Max is one of twelve finalists on The X Factor this year with the live shows starting this Saturday night on ITV.
