X Factor 2015 hopeful Anton Stephans has revealed how he has battled drugs.
The backing singer is one of this year's hopefuls in the Overs category and is hoping the show will help put himself in the spotlight having spent years in the shadows of other performers.
It's not been an easy journey to this point for Anton, who was adopted aged seven, with the 45-year-old telling today how he was "seduced" into a world of drugs.
“Have I smoked marijuana? Yes. Have I popped pills? Yes, I have. There’s very little I haven’t done, and I have to own up to doing those things," Anton explained. “But do I do them now? Absolutely not.”Anton said he now counsels youngsters on the dangers of drugs.
He continued: “Taking drugs won’t make anyone any happier. That short period of time, when I was in my 20s and a little in my 30s, robbed me of everything I love. I’ve made mistakes, but since then I’ve tried to live my life in the way that I’ve been taught to.”
Anton previously spoke about how he had been inspired to audition for The X Factor this year after battling cancer, at one point being given just weeks to live.
"I pretty much thought that if I get through this I'm going to do all the things that I've been frightened of doing," he said. "It's funny how the worst thing that can happen can turn out to be the very best."
The X Factor continues weekends on ITV.
