Josh Daniel has spoken about losing his friend following last night's emotional X Factor audition.
21-year-old car mechanic Josh performed for the panel on Sunday's show, saying he would be singing his own spin on Labrinth's Jealous, dedicating it to a friend who had passed away.
"I interpret the lyrics a different way," Josh explained. "I kind of see it in the sense that I'm jealous he's in heaven and moved on to a better place and I can't be with him."
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was left sobbing over the emotional performance, telling Josh: "That was the most captivating I've seen in all the auditions so far. You really touched me, I kinda of want to hug you."
Meanwhile Simon Cowell was also also clearly moved as Josh left the stage with three yeses.
Speaking to The Sun today, Josh has opened up about his best friend Thomas Woolley who passed away before the Labrinth track was released.
"I’ve never performed it live before, I’d been sort of bottling up," Josh explained.
Talking about Thomas' story, Josh revealed: “About five years prior to his death he’d had a lung transplant. He loved mountain biking and he came off and when he went into hospital the doctor said the bruising had brought an anti-body into his body and he caught pneumonia.
“He lost so much weight and was so weak; he couldn’t have any kind of operation on his lungs. They had to just allow him to live for as long as his lungs lasted and then just let him pass."
He recalled: “It was so hard. He was like a brother. I didn’t know how to deal with it.
"I was off work for a long time with depression. Singing helped, but there wasn’t a great deal that aided it at the time. I spent a lot of time by myself. I’ve never experienced anything like it before."
Josh concluded: “His family have always said he’ll always be with me on my journey, no matter what I do. It’s important for them that more people may be able to hear more of his story.”
The X Factor continues this Saturday and Sunday on ITV.
