Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke says she's glad to have been dropped from her record label.

Alex parted ways from her second label RCA in the summer of 2013 with the two sides citing "differing views over the best creative path" to take with Alex's third studio album.

It's been a rather long wait for that record and there's still no concrete news on when (or if) it'll ever be released.

Instead, Alex's been working on a new EP which will be out for FREE on April 27.

Alexandra said: "It's me with my boxing gloves on, in the ring, speaking about things that I wasn't brave enough to peak about before. It's a taster of the album

"It's really really personal. I touch on my love life, family life and professional life."

Speaking about her move away from The X Factor and major label backing, Alex explained: "It's important for any artist to have control. I'm at a point where I'm my own boss - I have a recording studio in my house now.

"I won one of the biggest shows on the planet, but now I can do things my own way. It's a bit rebellion."

Alex told Star magazine this week that she had "no regrets" about her time on the ITV show declaring: "It has given me my life. I still have a lot of respect for The X Factor."

And she's still up for joining the panel one day, adding: "I've love to [become a judge], especially if I can offer something that's useful to peoples dreams."
