It's after it was reported last week that boss Simon Cowell had asked Cheryl to return to this year's series.
However Mel B's spot on the line up was said to be 'at risk' with TULISA being tipped to replace her.
"They haven’t signed a deal yet but Simon, Cheryl and ITV are all on the same page," a source said. “But that’s really bad news for Mel. She had a good first year but bosses want a new line-up.”
Whether it's the thought of working with Tulisa or not working with Mel again, either way Cheryl is now causing a stir.
The Daily Mirror newspaper report that Cheryl wants the show to be "good" and reckons that can only happen with Mel as a judge.
“When Mel was in the running last year, Cheryl wasn’t over the moon. But they hit it off and became very close," an insider told the tabloid. "That is a huge part of her negotiations with Simon. He wants Cheryl back but she hasn’t made up her mind.”
However Simon is rumoured to be not too pleased with Mel having missed the final last year, which saw former judge Tulisa rushed in to replace her on the lie show.
"He loved Mel and Cheryl together but Mel did miss a final and that is a big deal," the source said.
Officially speaking, as yet nothing is confirmed about the new series, which will return to ITV in the summer.
