Simon Cowell has denied falling out with Cheryl on The X Factor 2014, following recent reports.
Magazine articles earlier this month had suggested that behind the scenes the pair had been clashing.
A source told Star magazine: "Simon's getting sick of Cheryl constantly answering him back and picking fights.
"He likes her feistiness and knows that banter is goo for the show, but now it's getting to the point where it's awkward to watch."
Simon previously explained his and Cheryl's sometimes bizarre on screen friendship, telling the Xtra Factor: "If I like somebody then I can poke fun at them.
"That's how I am with all my friends. So if I didn't like Cheryl, I wouldn't have fun with her."
The X Factor boss took to Twitter last night to again insist he and Cheryl were fine, after more bickering on the live shows at the weekend.
Simon tweeted: "I keep reading me and @CherylOfficial have fallen out. We haven't. She has proven to be a great friend."
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Cheryl has been invited to return along with Mel to the show next year.
A source told the tabloid: “Normally negotiations don’t start until after a series has finished, but it’s clear the two girls have been popular and are both keen to stay on next year.
“Obviously they have successful singing careers of their own too though which are going from strength to strength at the moment, so they are in line for a pay boost to keep them both on board.”
However when asked about coming back to the panel in 2015, Cheryl insisted it was "too early" to make a decision.
For now, The X Factor continues Saturday and Sunday night on ITV.
