Rita Ora snubbed X Factor for The Voice UK because of Cheryl Cole, it's been claimed.

The Hot Right Now singer has joined the BBC One show for the new series alongside Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Ricky Wilson.

But it's after she said no to joining The X Factor, a move which was said to have annoyed Simon Cowell.

“Simon feels like Rita’s move to his rival talent show is like sticking two fingers up to his offer," a source told Star magazine previously. “He made it known that he was interested in having her on The X Factor along with Cheryl.”

Now it's claimed that one of the reasons Rita chose The Voice over the X Factor was because of precisely because of Cheryl's return to the ITV series.

A source said: "If she joined X Factor, she'd be in Cheryl's shadow. But, this way, she can totally own the spotlight."

They added to heat magazine: "Rita thinks The Voice attracts younger contestants - fewer karaoke singers and more talent.

"Plus, she likes the idea f being the only woman on the panel."

As well as Cheryl and the acts, Rita was also put off X Factor after she appeared as a guest judge at auditions in London two years ago.

The insider claimed: "She didn't really enjoy her guest stint on The X Factor in 2012, because she felt judged for not being good enough."

The Voice UK will begin on BBC One in the new year.
