X Factor 2014 judge Cheryl Cole has hinted she may quit after this series.
It’s looking like the Girls Aloud star’s comeback could end up being as short lived as Sharon Osbourne’s, who returned to the panel for only the one series last year.
Despite the fanfare of Cheryl’s return to the UK series, along with boss Simon Cowell, ratings for the current run are down.
Saturday’s show had 7.3 million viewers, losing out to Strictly Come Dancing which had over 9 million.
And it was down over a million viewers on last year when Sharon sat on the panel alongside Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger.
“It’s too early to commit to next year," Cheryl said this weekend. "Your life is literally the show and by the end of it you are exhausted, mentally exhausted.
“I am anyway, I think I take it a bit too seriously. I can’t help it. People say to me ‘You have to step back and separate your emotions’ but it’s hard."
She added: “I get competitive when I know Simon is upstairs ringing bells and doing whatever he is doing and I am in my little dressing room downstairs.”
In an interview with the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper, Cheryl told how she was forced to leave the show after having a "nervous breakdown" in 2011.
"I just wasn’t taking notice and I should have listened sooner to the signals just to slow down," the Call My Name hitmaker explained. “I got sick and instead of taking the time off I was like ‘No, no, I am going back to work’ and within six to eight weeks I was back on X Factor.
“I wasn’t fully recovered and then I was agreeing to go to America and before I knew it I was out of my mind and I was jaded."
The X Factor continues tonight on ITV.
