X Factor's Steph Nala has admitted that going solo from the Luminites has been 'really hard'.
The singer impressed the judges at the weekend after appearing on the ITV series from Britain's Got Talent, where she had made the final with the band.
The Luminites had been signed to Sony Music after BGT and released a pretty good track in Do Something, but it got to only Number 65 in the charts.
“We got dropped. Like bang. You’re really like loved and then it’s just…" Steph recalled.
Fortunately Steph has quite the huge fan in Simon Cowell.
“Simon was really supportive of the whole band. Even in my re-audition Simon did say he loved the band,” she told the Radio Times. “I felt there was more pressure, because it’s not like I left a band that was bad, I left a band that he really liked, so it was a big step.”
Discussing her choice to audition for The X Factor, Steph continued: "I thought, what have I got to lose?
"I think having a big knock back scared me to come back and do a show again. If it doesn’t work out, what do you do? But this is the first time I’ve ever done anything myself, so I’m proud."
But going from being in a band of five to standing on stage alone has been "crazy" for Steph.
She added: "Before it was like, you sing this verse, I sing this verse, now it’s like I’ve got to sing the whole song and make it interesting for people to listen to, which is really hard when it’s just yourself."
The X Factor continues next Saturday and Sunday night with the Arena auditions.
