The X Factor 2014 ratings were down some 600,000 viewers on last Saturday night's episode last night.

An average audience of 8.9 million viewers - including those who caught up on ITV+1 - tuned in for the latest audition show between 8PM and 9:20PM.

The try outs from Newcastle and Manchester peaked with 10.1 million viewers as the Room Auditions continued.

It's a decline on the opening episode last weekend which had averaged 9.5 million viewers and peaked with 10.6 million.

However it's up on last Sunday's show some 700,000 viewers, after that saw a rather disappointing 8.2 million watching last weekend.

And in even better news for show bosses, yesterday evening's episode was up 600,000 viewers on last year's equivalent episode.

Although that show had clashed with the launch of Strictly Come Dancing which this year airs tonight.

This evening will see both reality juggernauts face off with one another in a direct clash from 8PM.

The X Factor continues tonight on ITV while Strictly starts on BBC One.
