X Factor 2014: Simon Cowell hopes new bootcamp boy band take on One Direction

Simon Cowell (X Factor 2014)

X Factor boss Simon Cowell has put together a huge new bootcamp boyband.

As reported here previously, the new bootcamp band has some EIGHT members, all guys, who failed to get through as show soloists.

The line up includes former auditionees Tom Mann and Barclay Beales, who both made the bootcamp stages in 2013.

Now Simon is hoping that the group - mentored by Louis Walsh - will challenge One Direction.

"Between the eight of them they’ve got everything they need to be a success," a source told The Sun today.

According to the tabloid, the group have been told to "gel" ahead of their performance at judges' houses.

“They really need to find an identity they can all agree on and to become friends," the insider said of the still unnamed band.

The source added: “One Direction might have been manufactured but it worked because they were friends and they went in as equals and none of them have huge egos.

"This new band needs to find the same thing.”

The X Factor will air on ITV later this year.
