Simon Cowell denies being gay after claims in Tulisa's drugs trial

Simon Cowell (X Factor 2014)

A lawyer for Simon Cowell has denied that the X Factor boss is gay, following claims in Tulisa's drug trial.

N-Dubz singer Tulisa was in court for allegedly setting up a drugs deal between a pal and an undercover reporter.

As part of the proceedings earlier this month, the court heard an exchange between Tulisa's PA Gareth Varey and reporter Mazher Mahmood (via the Daily Mirror)

Quizzed by the reporter if Simon Cowell was gay, Varey replied: "Yes".

He denied sleeping with the X Factor boss himself, saying: "One day I will when I make my move."

But asked by the journalist "How do you know he’s gay?", Varey responded: "I know people who have".

A lawyer for Simon said today: "Simon was referred to during trial, resulting in coverage of untrue claims regarding private life.

"In 2014 question of whether someone is gay or not is antiquated (he isn't, though if he were, he would simply have said so)."

They added: "However, the issue was the false suggestion made by Mr Varey that Simon - who is renowned for his honesty and candidness - had thus not been truthful in the public arena and this is what we have been obliged to clarify."

Tulisa was acquitted of the charges against today with the judge ending the trial.
