It was reported yesterday that bosses are planning on adding a fifth member to the panel for the live finals.
They would mentor a new fifth wild card category, made up a unique selection of acts who didn't quite make it into the live shows in the other four categories.
According to The Sun newspaper today, both Rita Ora and Mary J Blige are being touted for the role.
Rita previously revealed she had turned down a spot on the panel because "the timing wasn't right."
“I love the X Factor and I’m always going to support it,” Rita told the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper. “I might come in and out of the show but I think there’s a time and a place.
“On this occasion the timing wasn’t right but you never know in the future.”
However the new fifth judge role means Rita - or another judge - would only need to be free for the live shows and not the auditions, which have already begun filming.
Meanwhile, Glee's Jane Lynch - who plays Sue Sylvester on the series - has said she'd love to join the panel.
She quipped: “Maybe now that the series [Glee] is all coming to an end I could come and do a guest spot on X Factor and show Simon what mean really looks like.”
A spokesperson for The X Factor commented: “No decisions have been made regarding the live shows at this stage.”
