The 'I Will Never Let You Down' hitmaker was reportedly wanted by Simon Cowell to judge on this year's panel after previously turning down the show.
A source claimed last year: “Rita is at the top of his [Simon's] list with Cheryl. He has been a massive fan of hers for a while.
“He has offered it to her before but she didn’t think the time was right. Now the ball is very much in her court.
However once again Rita has turned down the show, despite appearing as a guest judge back on the show in 2012.
"I love the X Factor and I’m always going to support it," Rita told the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper at the weekend. “I might come in and out of the show but I think there’s a time and a place.
“On this occasion the timing wasn’t right but you never know in the future.”
So far only Simon and Cheryl have been officially confirmed for this year's judging line up, although Louis Walsh this week declared he'd also be back.
The Irish music mogul said: “It is all sorted. I am coming back. I just have to sign the contract."
The show will start in the autumn on ITV.
