X Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey has grabbed the Number One spot with her debut record.
Sam easily topped the Top 40 albums chart this evening after shifting over 50,000 copies of her album The Power Of Love over the past seven days, according to Charts Update.
Sam’s mentor on the show Sharon Osbourne tweeted today: “I’m counting down the hours till it’s official and your album is number one. Remember, you’ve always been my number one. So proud.”
And it may be Mother's Day but it seems there's no day off for Sam who's all set to perform at the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards tonight on Channel 5.
It's the first time that an X Factor winner has topped the charts in almost five years with 2008 champ Alexandra Burke the last to do so in 2009.
But to be fair to other winners, that's more to do with the time of Sam's release than anything.
Matt Cardle didn't reach number one but sold over 70,000 copies of his record although even those sales don't match up to the 132,000 copies Alexandra Burke sold let alone the 376,000 copies bought of Leona Lewis' debut.
Meanwhile back in the charts and last year's X Factor runner up Nicholas McDonald has fallen twelve places from his position in the Top 10 last week to just inside the Top 20.
