Alexandra Burke has become the latest X Factor star to head to the West End.
The 2008 champion will be playing the leading role in the London production of The Bodyguard, a musical based on Whitney Houston's tracks, from June until August.
"We saw her, and our creative team met her, and she was fabulous and knocked the songs out of the park," the show's producer David Ian told the Daily Mail this week.
For a show that often uses being "too musical theatre" as a criticism, Alex is just one in a long line of former X Factor finalists to go on to take to the stage.
She follows in the footsteps of Shayne Ward, Cassandra Compton, Diana Vickers, Marcus Collins, Niki Evans, Brenda Edwards, Ray Quinn, Rhydian Roberts, Lucie Jones and more.
But it does beg the question just what is next for Alex's more mainstream music career which has been rather quiet since her debut album way back in 2009.
After splitting from Simon Cowell's Syco label and moving to RCA, Alex did release a follow up some three years later - Heartbreak on Hold - but it didn't do all that well in the charts and last year she also left RCA records.
Alex has since insisted that a third album is on its way but it was November that we last had an update when the singer told us that a lead single had been picked and a music video was due to be shot. Over four months on now and there's been no sign of any progress on the record with Alex instead revealing plans of a change in career.
“I’m in a different space in my life at the moment and I’m actually currently training to be a life coach,” she said back in February. “I wanted some more balance in my life and it’s definitely brought a different perspective.
“I’m definitely way more balanced than I ever was and I’ve been able to come out of my comfort zone, come out of my shell a little bit more.”
We guess we'll have to keep on waiting...
